Counter-Strike 2, whether you love it or hate it, it’s here to stay but one of the most glaring differences from the previous CS:GO version is that it’s missing maps. While more CS2 maps are surely always welcome to give them game a little more ‘spice’, one omission in particular seems to be making an appearance in a future update.
This all stems from a small change we noticed from the Counter-Strike 2 dev team on X (formerly Twitter), which supposedly ‘teases’ that we might be making a return to the map, Train, sooner than we’d expected.

Counter-Strike 2 X (Twitter) Teaser
The starting point of this entire ‘teaser’ debacle was when the official Counter Strike 2 account on X (formerly Twitter) changed its cover photo to a mostly ambiguous image of a cracking concrete floor.
But since this is just an image of a floor that could be from any number of CS2 maps in the expansive Counter-Strike lineup, this isn’t definitive evidence but from our point of view, this floor looks like it would be in a Train station after all.
It’s a stretch, we know, but just roll with it.
This is also backed up by an earlier interaction from the CoutnerStrike account on a post talking about how Professional CS player ‘@G2m0NESY’ ‘hates Vertigo’ map. To which, the Counter-Strike 2 dev team responded with an appropriate smiling Shrek GIF.
In response to the GIF, the OP mentioned ‘He likes trains btw… just saying’ which hints at the Pro player’s preference of map seems to be the ‘Train’ map from the OG CS:GO.
This is another hint at ‘Train’ making a comeback to the map pool in CS2 and if you follow their account, you’ll know that this is an out of the norm response which typically only happens when there’s something ‘major’ on the way.
Datamined Information Hinting at ‘Train’ Map
Earlier last month, we also had some information from dataminer ‘@aquaismissing’ on Twitter where he found supposed ‘evidence’ that the devs are working on an updated ‘de_train’ map for Counter-Strike 2.
In particular, he mentions some new assets related to ‘train graffiti’ which could be part of the visual overhaul and upgrade of the map for Counter-Strike 2. This backs up our initial mention of the above Twitter interaction, and considering the timeline, it all matches up.
Whether Train is coming to the map pool soon is still up for debate but for now, the evidence does suggest that the Counter-Strike 2 dev team is preparing for a new CS2 map to make its way to the game.
